Some people like to skip their six-month appointment with us and only come in once every year. Some even come in less often than that. However, the six-month regular checkup isn’t some arbitrary time frame.
There’s a reason why we recommend you visit us twice a year. Here are a few reasons why it’s important to see us every six months.
We Do a Full Dental Checkup
Oral complications can come on rather quickly, but most serious issues slowly build up over time. Most of these issues can be caught early on if you visit us regularly. We will check for many different oral issues, make a note of any changes from your last checkup, and pay close attention to any areas that may look unusual or that we’ve noted before.
We check your teeth for plaque, look at your gums for signs of gingivitis, and even examine your throat and tongue. We want to make certain you have no oral problems, and if we do see anything, we want to be certain it gets treated as soon as possible.
If you want longer than six months to visit us, it only gives these oral issues time to advance and become more difficult to treat. It can also put you in a lot of pain or even cause you to lose teeth.
We Do a Full Dental Cleaning
The second part of a six-month checkup is a full dental cleaning. This removes the built-up plaque and bacteria on the teeth and gums. If this plaque is left, it will become tartar and lead to tooth decay. We will also polish your teeth using a special type of paste. This will remove stains and keep your teeth nice and white.
If you haven’t been in for a routine checkup in a while, it’s time. Give us a call today to make an appointment.
