What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Whenever appropriate, our doctors recommend implant-supported dentures because they offer greater stability and halt jawbone degeneration. Implant-supported dentures are permanently attached to dental implants, which are surgically embedded in the jaw. The implants fuse with the jawbone, providing a stable foundation for the dentures. This particular procedure is called “all-on-x,” referring to the number of implants you may receive to support the dentures that will be secured on top.

Because this option is not removable, there is no risk of your implant-supported dentures slipping out of place when you eat or speak as with removable dentures. You can enjoy crisp fruit, rare steaks, corn on the cob, and other foods that can be incredibly difficult to eat when wearing traditional removable dentures.

If you are facing multiple tooth extractions, our Mountain View dentists will fabricate a temporary appliance to be used while the permanent denture is being fabricated.

Removable vs. Permanent Implant Dentures

Removable dentures last between 5 and 7 years, restoring your mouth’s function and aesthetics by replacing up to 3 consecutively missing teeth. This is a great option for those who have a lower budget, and are looking more short-term. Non permanent dentures must be removed at night for cleaning, can sometimes slip around when eating or speaking, and certain foods cannot be eaten. For some people, there is a ‘break-in’ time to get used to the removable partial.

Permanent implant dentures are a less affordable option, but are made to last a lifetime. Daily replacement is not necessary, although you must still be diligent about cleaning your dentures. Your implant-supported dentures require 4-6 implants in the jaw and sufficient bone mass to support them. Additionally, they are more comfortable, a better fit for your unique mouth, and are more durable than temporary options.

Am I a Candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?

The best candidates for dental implant-supported dentures are non-smokers in good oral health who either have ample jawbone tissue or are willing to undergo a bone graft. Overall good health is a plus. Please call us at (650) 969-2600 to book an appointment with us. We are more than happy to advise you on the next steps towards better health!

How Much Do Implant-Supported Dentures Cost?

Implant-supported dentures are an investment. They last a lifetime longer than traditional dentures, which you may need to get replaced in 5 to 7 years. With permanent dentures, your quality of life is significantly improved through greater dental stability, convenience, and increased jawbone health. Investing in implant-supported dentures means no more worrying about how you look on the front lines or behind the scenes!

Other factors that can determine a patient’s implant cost:

  • The type of dentures system selected
  • The current oral health of the patient
  • If any preliminary procedures are required prior to creating the dentures
